Blogging in 2025

It has been a long time since I wrote a full article word by word. LLMs have severly inhibited my ability to both read and write relatively long texts, but I want to give it a try for the below reasons.

Noam Chomsky says that

“communication in general was a relatively minor aspect of language. Language was most important as a tool for thinking, a means for structuring thought.”

So I would like to think of writing as a thinking exercise rather than a message to an audience.

Where does this put us in the age of LLMs? not in a very good place to say the least.

When social media took over, attention span was the first victim. A lot has been said about how the attention span was severely shortened. With the 140 character limit, what was left intact was the actual effort done by the writer to write, to craft sentences and condense a massage down to a limited number of characters.

I am actually using Wispr Flow now to write. I’m dictating, not writing. I think there is a bit of irony there. Anyway, what we see now with LLMs is that the ability to hold a thought and think thoroughly about a subject to produce it and formulate it in your mind is being taken from us bit by bit, which is dangerous to say the least.

Is it similar to calculators? Meaning, are these concerns similar to the unvalidated concerns that people had when calculators were introduced? I honestly do not have an answer to that. I do feel a bit afraid.

As my own insurance policy against brain atrophy, I have decided to start blogging, in 2025, when not many are doing it anymore.
